Despite contracting polio at six, the agony of spina bifida and her near-fatal car accident, Frida Kahlo never saw herself as a victim. While she could have easily adopted a negative mindset, she instead transformed her harsh realities into a passion of expression through art and a conviction of her self-identity that often challenged the social values of her time. Openly bisexual, she was comfortable in expressing the many facets of herself fully embracing her femininity and masculinity in personal appearance, art and fashion.
