The Buckman Bridge is part of the heavily traveled I-295 Interstate highway that runs east-west from the southwest side of Jacksonville near the Naval Air Station to the Mandarin and San Jose areas of town. With this particular bridge, I decided to feature the St. Johns River and get playful and more abstract than usual with my paint and brushes—rather than depict eight lanes of a 3.1 mile stretch of twin bridge concrete roadways. The Buckman actually reminds me of all the causeways which connect Miami Beach to downtown Miami. I can’t begin to count the number of times I traversed them growing up in Miami.
